About CGST Hyderabad:

The government of India has introduced Central Excises and Salt Act 1944 w.e.f. 24.2.1944 for collection of Excise duty on manufacture of goods including Tax on salt. In the year 1962, the Government of India has introduced a levy of Customs on imports and exports through the enactment of the Customs Act, 1962. For collection and administration of Central Excise and Customs, the Government of India created a separate Board, Central Board of Excise and Customs(CBEC) in 1964 under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance through Central Boards of Revenue Act, 1963. Later, in 1994, the Government of India introduced a levy of Service Tax on certain services. Indirect taxes are a major source of revenue and contributing 35 to 40%.of revenue to the exchequer.

For the collection of Indirect taxes, the Central Board of Excise & Customs has formed several Collectorates (now Commissionerates) headed by a Collector (Now Commissioner) with field formations of Divisions/Ranges/Sectors/Circles headed by Assistant Collector (now Assistant Commissioner). The Hyderabad Collectorate was formed 70 years back covering the entire undivided State of Andhra Pradesh
